The Joe Kay Trophy Comes Home

By Breda Quirke, Publicity Officer

On Monday 29 January 2001, Borehamwood Camcorder Club won the Joe Kay Trophy, after losing it to Harrow Cine and Video Society for the previous five years. The Trophy is an annual competition between the two clubs. Each club presented a programme of videos lasting 40 minutes. These programmes are judged on entertainment value by four independent judges who are not involved in video-making. The judges were John and Maureen Pearce, nominated by Borehamwood, and Joy O'Donnell and Nazeer Kwaja, nominated by Harrow. Both programmes were of a very high standard, and the judges had a difficult job to decide the winner.

Would you like one of your videos to represent Borehamwood Camcorder Club next year? Come along to Room 3, The Community Centre, Allum Lane on Monday nights at 8 pm. Visit our web site at www.borehamwoodcamcorderclub.org.uk, or telephone Breda Quirke on 07960 322 741.

The club is for anybody who makes, or would like to make, videos on an amateur level. They offer advice and practical help with all aspects of video-making, from "which camcorder should I buy?", through planning your video, to the finer points of non-linear editing. They welcome new members, whether you want to learn from them or teach them. Membership costs £28 per year, and your first visit is free.

About the Joe Kay Trophy

Joe Kay was a member of Edgware Amateur Cine Society in the 1960s, who was well-known for the entertaining films he made. When he died in 1968, Borehamwood Camcorder Club (then known as Borehamwood and District 8mm Cine Club) presented a trophy in his memory, to be competed for annually by the two clubs. The Edgware club closed in 1995, and most of its members joined Harrow Cine and Video Society. As a result of this, Harrow agreed to continue the competition with Borehamwood.
