This page shows you what we're planning for the next few months. Events are on Monday evenings unless noted otherwise.

Except where noted otherwise, there is a limit of 15 minutes on all competition entries.


Events held in previous years

7 January

Annual General Meeting, including election of committee for 2002.

14 January

Film of the Year 2001 We choose the best film made by our members in 2001. This competition is open to any film that was placed first or second in any club competition in 2001.

There were 11 entries from five different members. The top three were:

  1. Eye over London by Peter Norman. A short film about a trip on the London Eye, a big ferris wheel that gives panoramic views over the city.
  2. Choo Choo by Dennis Edwards. Images of steam trains, set to the song Chatanooga Choo Choo.
  3. Abstract Espanol by Peter Norman. Abstract images and music filmed during a holiday in Spain.

The club's chairman, Mick Murphy, presented Peter with a trophy for the winning entry.

21 January

28 January

Joe Kay Trophy Competition Borehamwood versus Harrow Cine and Video Society, at Harrow.

Harrow won, by a narrow margin. The Borehamwood members felt that Harrow deserved their victory.


4 February

Beginners' Evening Our experts will be on hand to give advice about any and all aspects of video-making. If you have a problem with a piece of equipment, bring it along, with the manual.

11 February

Five-Minute Open Competition Make a video, about any subject, that lasts no more than five minutes. Also Members' Videos and discussion.
Winner: The Tides of Hope by Barbara Norman.

18 February

Auction Evening Bring your unwanted goods and plenty of cash. Not just video equipment, but anything that's legal to sell (!). A 10% commission will be taken for club funds.

25 February

Props Evening Bring along some interesting props which we hope will trigger some filming ideas.


4 March

Members' Videos with discussion, advice and criticism.

11 March

Editing Evening We will discuss the merits of both linear and non-linear editing.

18 March

Using Microphones How to improve the sound on your videos.

25 March

New Members' Evening Bring along a camcorder friend to see what we do and the videos we make.


1 April

Easter Monday - no meeting.

The competition winner was Floriade 2002 by Peter Norman.

16 September

Bristol Showreel We will screen a selection of videos from Bristol Film and Video Society.

23 September

Showreel Discussion To plan a Borehamwood showreel.

30 September

Objects Competition Make a video, about any subject, that lasts no more than fifteen minutes and uses a number of pre-determined objects (i.e. props). Afterwards, we will have discussion and constructive criticism; also members' videos.


7 October

Members' Videos with discussion, advice and criticism.

14 October

Documentary Competition (brought forward from 21 October) A documentary is "based on real events, places, or circumstances and usually intended primarily to record or inform." (New Shorter Oxford English Dictionary) Afterwards, we will have discussion and constructive criticism; also members' videos.

The winner was Allum Lane Community Centre by Peter Norman. The committee recently decided to present a trophy each year to the winner of this competition, in memory of Dennis Edwards. Dennis was a long-standing member who died in 2001. He was well-known for informative and entertaining documentaries. Peter will keep the trophy until the next documentary competition, when it will be presented to the next winner.

21 October

"What Makes A Good Story?" An illustrated talk by Aivar Kaulins on scripting, casting and acting.

28 October

Selection of Our Entries for HACCA and Joe Kay inter-club competitions.

4 November

11 November

"Weddings Can Be Watchable" An illustrated talk by Roy Osgood.

HACCA Inter-Club Competition at St Albans.

18 November

Twenty-Minute Open Competition Make a video, about any subject, that lasts no more than twenty minutes. Afterwards, we will have discussion and constructive criticism; also members' videos.
The winner was Blue Reef Aquarium, by Jane Moat.

25 November

Reading Showreel A selection of videos from Reading Film and Video Makers.

2 December

Members' Videos with discussion, advice and criticism.

9 December

No meeting due to a BBC Band concert on the same date.

16 December
