This page shows you what we're planning for the next few months. Events are on Monday evenings unless noted otherwise.

Except where noted otherwise, there is a limit of 15 minutes on all competition entries.

6 January 2003

Annual General Meeting including election of committee for 2003.

13 January

Film of the Year 2002 We choose the best film made by our members in 2002. This competition was open to any film that was placed first or second in any club competition in 2002.

Paul Welsh MBE, the Entertainments Officer for Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council, very kindly agreed to judge the competition for us. The winners were:
1st: The History of the Allum Lane Community Centre by Peter Norman.
2nd: Boats Trains and Helicopters by Roy Osgood.
3rd: Canada through a Windscreen by Mick Murphy.

27 January

Joe Kay Trophy Competition Borehamwood versus Harrow Cine and Video Society, at Borehamwood.

Once again, Harrow won, by a small margin.


3 February

Members' Videos, with discussion, advice and criticism.

10 February

No meeting. BBC Radio 4 are recording a programme at Allum Hall tonight, so parking is likely to be too difficult.

17 February

What makes a good film? Paul Fitzjohn hosts this club discussion.

Open Competition Make a video, about any subject, that lasts no more than five minutes.
The winner was Snowdrops 2003 by Roy Osgood.

Novices' Open Competition Make a video, about any subject, that lasts no more than 10 minutes.
The winner was The Sculptor's Year, by Stanley Russell.

Camera Works A hosted discussion on filming techniques.

23 June

No Meeting, because of a BBC Band concert at Allum Hall.

30 June

Members' Videos, with discussion, advice and criticism.

Lighting Equipment and Techniques A hosted discussion and demonstration.

Members' Videos, with discussion, advice and criticism.

Edit in Camera Competition Make a video, about any subject, that lasts no more than five minutes and is edited "in camera." This means that once you have shot your camera tape, you must not edit or post-process the picture or sound in any way. Obviously, you will need to plan your video carefully if you are to produce something watchable.
The winner was Changing Skylines, by Roy Osgood.

Discussion on how to make a documentary.

15 September

Documentary Competition for the Dennis Edwards Shield Make a documentary, about any subject, that lasts no more than 15 minutes. A documentary is "based on real events, places, or circumstances and usually intended primarily to record or inform." (New Shorter Oxford English Dictionary). You may make a video about a place where you went for a holiday (see also the Holiday Competition, below).
The winner was Nigel Longman.

22 September

Scripted films A discussion covering concept, script and filming.

29 September

Editing Workshop Part One: Deciding which footage to include in a film.

6 October

Editing Workshop Part Two: Continuing from last week, including some rough cuts based on the results.

13 October

Holiday Competition for the Bert Dewdney Shield Make a video about your holiday, lasting no more than 15 minutes.
The winner was A Look at Lille, by Peter and Barbara Norman.

20 October

Camera Workshop Bring your camera again. This time, the subjects are people and objects.

27 October

HACCA and Joe Kay Selection We will decide which films to enter into these competitions.
